Stories in Digital Media (SIDM) was a blog run by a few students and the professor Frieder Nake, part of the former Digital Media programme in the state of Bremen, Germany. By the end of the first decade of the millennium, the web and digital technology were advancing at an unprecedented pace in the social and artistic sphere. Developments were exciting, and we kept a log of some events and took time to reflect.

What you see here is a rendition of the content as it was back then, in a different, static archival representation. Enjoy this glimpse into a hopeful and exciting past.

mhm! i see... retreat != retreat. the retreat i meant was a weekend to discuss problems within the whole digital media program. the participants where ~20 lecturers and ~5 students... your retreat sounds to be more fun, though :)

Oh, we had ! It was very exciting, actually. But sadly, only a few students of the University of Arts showed up. Roland Kerstein catched some up later at friday evening and returned with them to Verden, so that more than 40 students participated. We had some very productive meetings with the groups and also our first kick-off meeting for the upcoming master project which were presented to the whole audience afterwards. But as in any case: One point of the agenda drove us all crazy. One hour of how to survive our burocratic mess of inter-university affairs, "Scheins", registration of modules... that dark side of the digital media. So we reached the point of no return and skipped to grilling and entertainment afterwards. Some boxes of beer were organized ... you´ll know ;) It was hopefully a pleasure to all of us ;) For my instance: The poker game I organized lasted up till 1:30 a.m.. And they finished with an split-pot to find an end ;) It was like the journey to an open minded hostel somewhere. Very international and accidentally all within this hostel studied the same subject. ;) Sharing Ideas, socializing. And to retrieve an overview of what is currently going on. Seems to be a very motivated group !
