Stories in Digital Media (SIDM) was a blog run by a few students and the professor Frieder Nake, part of the former Digital Media programme in the state of Bremen, Germany. By the end of the first decade of the millennium, the web and digital technology were advancing at an unprecedented pace in the social and artistic sphere. Developments were exciting, and we kept a log of some events and took time to reflect.

What you see here is a rendition of the content as it was back then, in a different, static archival representation. Enjoy this glimpse into a hopeful and exciting past.

Same start, as usual ?

So, the new term has already started. In fact you didn´t recognized - I´m a senior in the undergraduate program, currently writing my thesis. Besides that full-time effort I waste my time with such unimportant stuff as to moderate a group related to our digital media degree course in the evil StasiVZ StudiVZ. It´s quite not a big thing, but as usual - with every new term - some voices arise. To sum up in short : You can imagine the problems concerning our degree course from the students side. For my instance: I believe that the greatest organisational deficit is the circumstance that we didn´t managed it to establish a student council. As a german you have the possiblity to moan. A better solution might be to manage problems on your own. Quiet the best choice could be to establish an official institution for the students concerns instead of harm your beloved lecturer with problems which were solved before. And I don´t mention one council at each university. Should be an inter-university institution. So, let us cite Barack Obama... ;)

Change. Yeah, I thought this platform right here, right now, would be a start. Maybe it actually changed something significantly. I am not sure. And now I let the others form a students council ;-)

well, what about the GK (Gemeinsame Kommision) there are some students taking part as well. or do you mean something different with a student council?

So, do you know those students attending the GK frequently ? Heard about that, too.But I´m not ware of any names. I mentioned a kind of official students spokesman, someone who is the contact person for the students concern / questions and who is responsible to discuss the students view in the commision. I guess if there are some students willing to attend the GK it can´t be so hard to find someone to do that permanently on a voluntary basis, elective for an academic year maybe. Not only someone, more or less one or more students out of every programm each.. at least an inter-university student council. Or as we call it in german : "Fachschaft". Not only for the problems, also for the introduction of the freshmans etc.

if i remember correctly for the HFK christian jaentsch is in the GK (chrisj83 at gmx dot de). to get into GK for a university you have to be elected by the stuga (studiengangsausschuss). i just don't know so far, what the stuga exactly is. what i do know is, that there is no student in the GK from bremerhaven at the moment. someone can help to enlighten us?

Just to communicate the current situation. Three students of the bachelor´s programm at the University of Bremen founded an "StugA" an participated at the GK and other institutions. Obviously they are trying exactly that what I mentioned before. Good to know ! I invited the speaker to join this discussion and eventually to contribute to this blog.

Hello, I am one of the three persons derjan mentioned. Although there was a "StugA Digital Media" in the past, there weren't any members/persons when we startet our Bachelor in 2007. That's when we decided to change something and at least try to get a student opinion into those institutions like the GK. Right now we are working with the freshmen and we try very hard to get some new people for our StugA (we don't want this idea to disappear when we go away for our semester abroad). I am sure that one of us will participate in this Blog as soon as we have some spare time. It's great to see that we are not "the only students" that care about those problems...
