Same start, as usual ?

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

So, the new term has already started.

In fact you didn´t recognized – I´m a senior in the undergraduate program, currently writing my thesis.

Besides that full-time effort I waste my time with such unimportant stuff as to moderate a group related to our digital media degree course in the evil StasiVZ StudiVZ. It´s quite not a big thing, but as usual – with every new term – some voices arise.

3monthsWordcloud

Stories in Digital Media is 3 months old now and I would thank all contributers for their work, inspiration, critique and encouragement.

There are some plans for the future, including a reworked Layout, a new Logo, some additional functionality (to be discussed) and editorial refinements (cannot be too precise yet).

If you are a reader please comment on anything you ever wanted to comment regarding this very thing here but never found the right place to do this. Write your critique, ideas, wishes, etc. Thanks!

And then?

Saturday, June 14th, 2008

This morning a friend of mine asked me the following questions:

What is it, that you are studying?

For what is it for?

What can you do with it after your graduation?

Honestly, I did not really know how to answer these questions efficiently let alone satisfyingly. I mean, of course I have a personal plan, but this is not digital media as a pure thing – as digital media is a mixture of different disciplines and backgrounds. There is not one intended final use case or scenario for what we are studying. There is no job called “Digital Media Guy or Girl”.

Anyhow, I struggled to give at least a small hint about what digital media is and for what it can or could be used for as I simply did not know where to start explaining. Most people just want to get a very short answer. Maybe it would be better to avoid these questions after all or to make up some fake job description.

How do you deal with these kind of encounters?

i just discovered how cool our digital media programme is organized.
Last semester i visited 6 lectures, 2 at HS-Bremerhaven, 2 at HfK and 2 at Uni-Bremen. After successfully finishing the courses, the respective professors promised me, that they will send the “schein” to the examination office of their university, and from there it will be forwarded to my home-university, HS-Bremerhaven. Last Thursday I thought it might be a good idea to check if all my “scheins” have reached HS-Bremerhaven. Guess what – out of six just one grade is their. And to make it even worse, this single grade is completely wrong as well. It says that I have taken a lecture at the University, which i actually have taken at HS-Bremerhaven and the grade itself also does not correspond with what the professor told me. Great. So i now now wasting my energy with trying to get my grades instead of working for my presentation tomorrow. I need a secretary (or does digital media need one?).

What are your experiences with the scheins? Someone got already the Schein for any of the following lectures: “Audio Programming” (uni), “Spatial Cognition” (uni)?

Welcome!

Dear fellows & friends,

Welcome to  Stories in Digital Media. SiDM is a fresh new blog for all you Digital Media students in Bremen and Bremerhaven. It is a blog for you, made by you. This blog should be about Digital Media in General (meaning: theory, design, art and technology) and the programme of Digital Media in particular. Every student (and teacher) is called to start writing about anything that may be of interest to us. If you want to be an author, just register and leave a comment in the authors appliance post in this blog (you’ll find that post in the sidebar or after this post.)
I really hope to create something interesting and useful for us, so please apply and start writing what’s on your heart and mind!

Cheers,
Andre
