SKIF++

Sound gets processed into video and back, ranging from sonic bursts to melodic melancholy, using joysticks and selfmade controllers to keep it all in line (most of the time). Every SKIF++ performance is improvised, but based on structures that give each set its distinct character.

fresh lectures available!

i just saw that the schedule of lectures for the upcoming term is online. on the first sight it is not too interesting for me. a lot of lectures are the same (or similar) to what was offered in the last 2 semesters. at least one frieder nake lecture in a module that i still need is offered (semiotic aspects of media, tuesday, m-102). so i am fine :)

at the moment i still miss the descriptions of a lot of lectures, but in the last terms the schedule was updated a few times…

Announcement for a new course

Computer Games and Interactive Installations

This course is about designing, programming and building playable interactive installations. Beside technical aspects, questions of play, interaction and art will be discussed.
We will go to several exhibitions, try out examples, work collaboratively in small groups for a weekend in a workshop and visit the Transmediale in Berlin.

aec festival, a new cultural economy

ars electronica festival started on 4th of september in linz. this year it comes under the title “A New Cultural Economy: The Limits of Intellectual Property.”

as i don’t have the possibility to be there physically, i try to get some impressions from their website and other media reporting about it. For example the radio station fm4 broadcasts some specials on-air and also writes some stories on their website.

OpenCV Library for Processing

Did you ever ask yourself how to play around with your webcam ?

Two years ago I started a small project to track a certain color range within the frames grabbed from my webcam using real-time image processing. So I came across the Open Computer Vision Library for C/C++, in short OpenCV, developed by Intel and published under a BSD License. As an example : The built-in facetracking algorithms are definitly the favorite toys of our Federal Minister of the Interior, Wolfgang Schäuble.
